While are in the greatest country in the world, I'm afraid that we are getting a little too much governmental involvement into our personal lives:

1. Terrorism has brought on a new level of scrutiny by the TSA (including groping kids, the elderly, and others). When was the last time that Israel had a hijacked plane? They don't because they use other methods that work w/o violating personal space.

2. Law enforcement absent of due process in the name of terrorism. I have no doubt that this has significantly aided in the avoidance of major incidents. However, it will probably change the country permanently.

I don't have issues with most of these (except legally allowing TSA agents to fondle our kids) because I believe they do allow for better law enforcement. However, you add all these things up and the government is perpetually a foothold into the privacy that we have been proud of over the last 235 years. We need to keep things in check b/c the pace of change with technology is almost impossible to keep up with.

In 2010, the most powerful weapon for the NAACP is to use the word racist. This is particularly potent when we have black man running the White House. Any time there is a disagreement with the president's policies and core beliefs, the offender must be racist.

It is unfortunate that the organization doesn't concentrate their efforts in working on the 'Advancement of Colored People.' Instead, it is often too busy denouncing rulings and protests. If the organization were truly for the advancement of non-Caucasians, then it should really support Black politicians and professionals.

It is quite astounding to me that this great quote still applies to the American Government today. It can only get worse if we continue to move into the Socialistic model. People don't complain when Capitalism allows them to acquire goods. However, if those goods are not saved and invested appropriately, people blame Capitalism for their troubles.

It is quite disheartening to see some of the true colors of politics in this country. Harry Reid clearly made a comment that should alarm minorities in the Democratic party. As mentioned the following article, Reid suggests that Obama was a "light-skinned" African-American "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." The first question that comes to my mind is 'What is a "Negro" dialect?'

We all know "what" he is implying, but speaking in these terms as a veteran State Senator is inexcusable. The media should be ashamed of themselves by not calling out this blunder. I guarantee that the reaction would be different if this happened to a high ranking Republican during the previous administration.

The media has marginalized Huckabee by making every headline coincide with the term "Evangelical". How amount mentioning his Fair Tax plan, his view on international terrorism, immigration, gun control, or poverty? These headlines only prejudice viewers into thinking that Huckabee will enforce some religious doctrine that will bring Papal rule to the US. How ridiculous! The American people will not stand for it. So, lets evaluate Huckabee's on his ability to lead the country instead of categorizing him as the "Evangelical" leader.

He is lucky that more of the dogfighting, gambling, and connections to illegal drugs is not being exposed with his name attached. He bank rolled the entire operation, and he deserves to do the time. I was encouraged by his public apology. However, I am disgusted by the magnitude of excuse making by the black media at large.

Bogus Hate Crime Law

Have you heard of this ridiculous law? It is frustrating that the lobbyists and congressmen are waisting resources on legislation that corrupts the justice system. What a terrible concept to think that someone that has committed a crime should be punished more or less based on their racist tendencies. In my book, a crime is a crime! So, to defeat this law, a rapist or murderer just needs to avoid verbally slandering the victim in a discriminatory fashion to avoid being hit with a "Hate Crime" charge... Ridiculous!

A Virtual World

Have you ever wanted to check your email or do internet banking on a computer that is not your own (such as a library)? In that scenario, you may not want to have your cookies and browsing history stored on that particular computer. One solution is to use a program called "Sandboxie" ( http://www.sandboxie.com). This is a lightweight application that you can carry around on a flash drive. Check it out...

In other cases, you may want to test out a new program or even carry around a full blown operating system everywhere you go. This can be accomplished with many different programs, but only two stand out from the pack:

1. VMWare - http://www.vmware.com
2. Parallels - http://www.parallels.com

I hear that Parallels is very fast and reliable, but costs $$. VMware has free virtual products and is constantly adding new features.

SOHO (Small Office, Home Office)

I remember when getting a small office setup on the Internet would cost hundreds of dollars to have a consultant setup the network. The IT consultant or employee would have to setup a router with either a T1,T3, or ISDN connection. It would require a dedicated line to be pulled in from the ISP. It was often a headache to be frank.

Today is a very different story. It is trivial to order either DSL or a cable modem and buying a commercial router to connect the office to the Internet. I mention this because most people do not realize the dangers of setting up a router with WiFi. The problem is that most of the wireless routers are setup without any security features enabled. Needless to say, this is a *very* bad thing to do. When people (usually neighbors) hop onto your wireless router to cruise the Internet, you are completely liable for any non-desirable activity. Your ISP can only see the router's address (unless you have a customized configuration) when tracing back suspicious activity.

You may say "I setup a secure WEP password". Not so fast my friend... WEP is at a point where it can be cracked in a matter of minutes. Check out AirCrack (http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php ) for an example. So, the moral of the story is to use WPA or WPA2 security on your wifi router.

MLB Looked the Other Way

With the whole controversy about Bonds, we tend to forget that Major League Baseball ran a huge promotion on the homerun chase in 1998. It didn't stop there, they knew that they were able to parlay the publicity into a national story in an attempt to make baseball relevant to casual fans. There was never a definitive policy in the league against performance enhancement drugs. I realize that most players use the stuff to help them heal faster, which is a legitimate argument. However, MLB should just officially make a public statement that a player could get suspended for using too much pine tar on a bat, but not for using steroids. In retrospect, they are the root cause for the public backlash.

The Search for Racial Issues in Bonds Race

Apparently Barry Bonds is a polarizing figure in not only general baseball v.s. steroid terms, but also among racial boundaries.

This story really means nothing. The Barry Bonds chase of Hank Aaron's record is very uneventful. He is not a sympathetic figure or consensus fan favorite. Hank had to endure things from angry racist fans that Barry could never imagine. Yet, the media has to dig up something that can bring race to the forefront.

Bonds is going to break the record in the next few weeks. I am among one of the people that dread the day that this happens. Especially being a Braves fan. Before the big steroid hoopla which started in the late '90s, I was a huge Bonds fan. I thought that he was quietly making a case for a solid Hall of Fame career. However, I began to feel a little uncomfortable with his ridiculous home run outburst over the last 5-6 years. Not to mention his pompous, selfish attitude toward teammates and fans.

I know you have had one. You cannot sleep at night because there is an army of crickets outside of your window making annoying sounds. You toss and turn without getting comfortable in bed. The next morning, you wake up and see a zit forming in the middle of your forehead. You attempt to start the car on the way to work and find out that the battery is dead. You finally get it boosted and have a flat tire on the way to work. Once at work, the printer jams and recks the copy of the document that your boss asked for 10 minutes earlier... Then you notice that its not even lunch time yet.

Well, it seems that we are having that kind of year. Most of the issues revolve around various problems with the house we just purchased three years ago. Since that is the most significant investment, other things are secondary. Without putting all of my business out in cyberspace, it has been either highs or lows for all of 2007 (and the vast majority of 2006). I long for the non-eventful everyday life... Go to work, go home, eat dinner with my wife and daughter, put our girl to bed, and start all over again the next day.

TSA Loses Hard Drive With Personal Info

Are you kidding me! I cannot believe how disk drives come up missing from these companies with controlled access. Especially TSA and other "security" oriented authorities. This information should all be encrypted at the least. If a hard disk contained this personal information from a database, then all records in that database should not be accessible without security credentials.

First of all, the TSA should have the funds for an adequately secure infrastructure. Second of all, if someone has physical access to those servers, then they should be fully tracked with cameras and badge scans or biometrics. This is unacceptable! The best they can do is say that they will provide credit watching services. I guess a big fat "My Bad" is acceptable for some companies...

This blog is not dedicated to any particular topics. I will mention everything ranging from sports, life to technology.

Speaking of life, what is this big craze going on with global warming? Whether you believe in ~7000 years since the inception of this planet or on a geologic scale of over 1 billion years, you must admit that we are taking a lot of credit for being able to fry a planet in a matter of just a few decades (since the industrial revolution). There are obvious signs of catastrophic events on this planet throughout time. There is overwhelming evidence of a global flood at some point in history. What did the evil humans do to cause that one?

Ironically, the global warming chatter is all happening around the same time a presidential election. It is tiresome to hear these politicians contradict themselves on a consistent basis and think that we are dumb enough to believe their lies. There is no secret that the American people are readily willing to compromise integrity in certain areas to vote for the candidate that is the lesser of two evils.

Ok, enough blabbing for now. I will rant some more at the next appointed time... Stay tuned.
